Need Your Love So Bad – Peter Green (Classic Solo Guitar Lesson CS-003) How To Play

Peter’s Greens solo in Need Your Love So Bad is surely one of the greatest blues solos of all time. Simple but complex. The notes are the easy bit, it’s the dynamics and subtle inflections that are so hard to capture! I’m not sure if I’ll ever feel I’ve mastered it, but thought you might like this lesson as a checker for your transcription… which is what I would recommend… Backing track is on the web site as well as some notes about the gear I was using – and some insights into PG’s gear.Taught by Justin Sandercoe. Full support at the justinguitar web site where you will find hundreds of lessons on a wide range of subjects, and all the scales and chords that you will ever need! There is a great forum too to get help, no matter what the problem. And it is all totally free, no bull. No sample lessons, no memberships, no free ebook. Just tons of great lessons 🙂 To get help with this lesson (and for further info and tabs), find the Lesson ID in the video title (like ST-667 or whatever) and then look it up on the Lesson Index page of Have fun . Hope you enjoy!

  1. I think it would sound much more like Peter Green if you have used your fingers instead of a pick 🙂 Especially the fleshy part of the thumb, it would give that percussive sound on the attack 🙂

  2. I’ve made a long version of Justin’s backing track 🙂

  3. Fantastic! Thanks for adding this Justin. I’ve always been a massive fan of Peter Green, I think I requested this a while ago on your forum. Perhaps you could do a lesson on a Danny Kirwan (also early fleetwood Mac) song? He’s got quite a few such as ‘Like Crying’, ‘Something Inside of Me’, ‘Jigsaw Puzzle Blues’, ‘Coming Your Way’, ‘Like it this Way’. Very underrated and off the radar songwriter.

  4. Nice playing and lesson. However, this isn’t “the solo” to Need Your Love So Bad, this is “the intro”. Some of the ideas are the same in the solo.

  5. Thank you for lesson and advice justin. Is that a police-car on your T-Shirt?

  6. Justin, you are phenomenal man! No other words but THANK YOU for sharing this with us – I learned more from couple minutes of your video, than for years of trying to learn from others. You are a truly genius. Thanks much!

  7. Dear Justin ,
This was amazing! Thanks to you I ‘ve really dug deep in the world of transcribing solos!
Also I would really appreciate it if you added the amazing solo of Jimmy Page in the song Since I’ve Been Loving You by Led Zeppelin!
    Cheers, Phil
